What Happened When I Stopped Being Gross & Lazy And Started Washing My Face

Wow, that's a mouthful ain't it? Also, my old therapist would be soooo pissed to see me calling myself lazy. But it's true AB, I was lazy! Why else would I not wash my face before bed? Or ever except in the shower?
Basically, I never really thought it was that important to wash your face. I don't know why I didn't realize the importance of it, because I had major acne all the time. What's the best way to get rid of acne? Washing your freakin' face! Major "duh" moment for me, y'all.

What happened though is that I started all these subscription beauty boxes. And in those boxes often came facial stuff. Like masks or face wash. And I was reviewing them for a while, so I wanted to try them. I still wasn't doing a great job, until I decided to try an add-on from Birchbox in June. I have a hard time finding stuff I can use because so much has aloe, but those wipes don't.

Now I wash my face twice a day with those makeup remover wipes. I used to use an astringent twice a day too until I had my first facial, which I realize now I never blogged about! Maybe another day. Anyway, the esthetician told me to stop using the astringent twice daily because I was fucking up my skin. Actually, she said I was drying out my skin, but it's the same thing.

I ran out of astringent and haven't bought more yet, but I still use the facial wipes every morning before work and every night before bed. I also use an under eye cream and a moisturizer. I had been using the Aphrodite Skin Care Replenishing Eye Cream from my March Ipsy bag religiously. But that's running out and I'm not sure I want to buy more to be honest.
But in August I got a sample of Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm in my Sephora Play! box and I'm pretty excited. I was worried because it has aloe, but I tried a small sample on my wrist and then started using it and it hasn't irritated my skin, so I'm going to keep using it.

The best part is that it's about half the size of the full size and a tiny bit goes a super long way. Also, because it's just meant for the under eye area it will last a while. I just tap my finger and what comes up is more than enough for one eye.

I'm a little worried about when this runs out, but for now I'm happy. I've also been using two different moisturizers. In July I got a 1 oz sample of Dr. Jart+ Water Drop Hydrating Moisturizer and I'm in love. So in love that I'm considering dropping the $36 on it! Y'all. This is so amazing. My face has never felt so smooth!

I also got a Garnier Skin Active Clearly Brighter Brightening & Smoothing Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 from a Target box (I think). I've been using this every morning because it has SPF and let me tell you. This is also great, because I'm not big on using regular sunscreen. I got a Tarte sunscreen that I've never used, but this doing double works for me.

I don't use the same moisturizer every day. I've been playing around with L'Oreal, Garnier, Dr Jart+ and Coola lately. So far, the only thing I've found that I'm really considering coughing up the cash for is the Algenist, even more than the Dr Jart. I've been using it for a month now and I've barely made a dent. The Dr Jart seems to go pretty quickly and I don't know that I want to spend $36 every 3 months or so.
I'm not saying my face is perfect. I still break out, mostly around my chin. I'm working on clearing up two pimples right now on either side of my chin that are really annoying. But I get fewer break outs, and I think I broke out because I got my period. (Which has been obnoxiously wonky, thanks PCOS.)

I don't have a before and after, because I wasn't thinking of that. I'm just so glad that my face feels better. My tips for you if you're looking to clear your skin and make it smoother would be to wash and moisturize daily. Consider using an astringent once a day, I usually do mine at night. And use different moisturizers. Daytime moisturizers should have an SPF in them and your evening moisturizer should be stronger. You won't be sweating it off, so you'll want one that will sink into your skin.
