My Tattoos & Piercings

This is a somewhat controversial topic. Some people are adamantly opposed to tattoos, piercings and any other body modification. I’m not one of those people. I decided to call this “my tattoos and piercings” until I realized that I never wear jewelry in any of my piercings anymore. I’m mostly going to focus on my tattoos; the two I have, as well as the several I want.

I can briefly go over my piercings. I had my lip pierced for a little while; I took it out for a job interview and never put it back in. I had my nose pierced for a few months until I had a bad allergy attack and my nose swelled up too much to put it back. I have seven piercings in my left ear, mostly cartilage with just one being a lobe piercing and one in my right ear. I’m considering getting my daith done because a friend of mine swears it helped her headaches.

I currently have two tattoos. The first one, I got on Black Friday 2013. I remember exactly when because it was the year my dad died and Black Friday is enough of a holiday to remember. I actually got it as part of a class assignment. We had to do something new, and I hadn’t had a tattoo yet. I designed it myself, but I wish I had done something different. It’s not a bad tattoo, and I would still keep everything I have. I would just have added something.

It’s a memorial tattoo for my dad. It’s on my inner left forearm, which was chosen for a reason. I wanted the tattoo to be easily hidden, but I wanted to be able to look at it whenever I wanted. Its’ meaning is so important that it’s kind of a tattoo just for me, and I only show it on purpose or if I’m wearing short sleeves. Even in short sleeves, it’s fairly easy to hide. The tattoo itself is made of lyrics to a song I love, my dad’s Native name, and his date of birth and date of death. The song is called "The Fault In Our Stars" and it's by Troye Sivan. You can see the music video here.

I love the tattoo, but the guy that did it messed up a few spots. They aren’t too bad, and it’s only noticeable to me because I’ve seen it every day for the last three years. The tattoo didn’t hurt at all, in fact one spot by the second “y” tickled. I chose Zapfino because it’s pretty; there was no other reason. The other font is Birch Std Regular. The letters are starting to bleed into each other and it doesn’t look as delicate as it did originally. I was warned that would happen, so I’m not upset. I plan to add on to it eventually.

My second tattoo is a red treble clef with a heart in the center. I was debating between this on and one with a cross. Two years later, as a firm atheist, I’m glad I went with the heart. Even back then I was questioning my religion; hence the decision to not get a cross tattooed permanently on my body. This one I’m really annoyed with. The guy messed up several things, and it’s very noticeable. It’s on my right inner wrist. I was told it might hurt, but the guy literally gouged my skin. The parts that hurt the worst also look the worst.

There are lines that are too thick, lines that are too thin, the shape of the heart is jacked up, and the guy didn’t even finish the bottom the right way. I am so pissed about this tattoo. But, it only cost me 50 bucks. You get what you pay for! I paid $125 for my first tattoo and it is so much better. It was supposed to look like this without the text.

I have designs planned out for at least seven more tattoos in various spots on my body. I plan on doing a dream catcher with my Native name and tribe name incorporated on my left arm. I have an angel that I’ll be doing on my back right shoulder. I have a sisters’ tattoo planned with my sisters on my moms’ side. I want another tattoo for my dad, but I haven’t planned too much for that. I will be adding to my first tattoo with something in either Morse code or Algonquin. And I have a few other ideas too. Nothing is really drawn out or planned and I don’t know when I’ll get them.

My dad had a few tattoos, so I know he wouldn’t be upset with me for getting them. He actually knew about the angel because I’ve been working on it since I was 15. My mom is cool with them too, she actually wants to get an Eeyore tattoo with me, and I’d get Tigger.  My sisters and brothers all have tattoos too. I love tattoos and am glad that most jobs aren’t against them these days.

Do you have/want tattoos? What do you think of mine? Let’s chat in the comments!

  1. I don't have any tattoos and I'll never get any. I'm not a tattoo person at all!

    1. Tattoos aren't for everyone. As long as people don't give me grief for having tattoos and piercings, I'm good. I would never dream of giving non-tattooed people grief, lol, it's all a personal choice :)
