5 Things I Do Well

I suppose this could almost be a “get to know me” post but oh well. Being so close to Thanksgiving, and with Christmas coming up, most people would be happy. I’m not one of those people. That said I chose to cheer myself up with some nice posts this week. Tuesday’s post was all about things that make me happy. Today I’m talking about things I do well. Thinking about what you do well is a great way to boost your mood and make you feel good about yourself, if only for a little while.

1. Writing. I talked about how writing is one of the things that makes me happy Tuesday. I think maybe the fact that I’m pretty good at it is why it makes me happy to do it. If I sucked it wouldn’t make me happy to do it. I’ve been writing since I was about 10 and I’ve only gotten better. My mom says I used to tell stories to my imaginary friends and they were apparently quite good. Reading a lot helps me be a better writer also.

2. Digital drawings. I love working in photoshop. I know a lot of people that would rather use illustrator to do digital drawings or paintings but I’m in love with photoshop. I started in Corel Paint Shop when I found a free version of it on my dads’ old computer. Then I tried GIMP and now I use Photoshop. I’ve done fan art, clothing design, people, and so much more. It’s a hobby mostly, but I do sell some designs on Society6.

3. Listening. I pride myself on being a good listener. Yes, there are times when I don’t listen very well. But most of the time I pay attention to what people are saying. I can always tell when people are used to being ignored because they get this smile when they realize I’m actually listening. This trait is one of the reasons I’ve contemplated being a therapist. I haven't given up the idea entirely.

4. Teaching. I also considered being a teacher. I love helping people learn new things. At my old job I was one of the people the managers would sit new people and people on interviews with to help them learn what we do. I also help my niece with homework a lot. I’ve taught a lot of different things to people over the years and I feel like I’m pretty good at explaining things so they get it.

5. Learning. On the same note, I think I’m pretty good at learning. I’ve always been quick to pick up new things. Learning comes easily to me, as long as it’s a topic I’m interested in. My grades in school didn’t reflect that, but that’s not because I didn’t know what I was doing. I was just lazy. But this is about good things, so we’re not going to focus on that!

I think that’s where I’ll end. I could probably dig deeper and come up with more things, but I like this list. It doesn’t have to be everything I can do well, just the ones I think are important. I like sitting down at the computer and thinking about good things.  This has certainly put me in a good mood, and for that I’m grateful.
