My Favorite Road Trip(s) - A Post Done In Photos

It’s the time of year people tend to go on trips. Usually it’s coming home to see family for the holidays, but sometimes it’s getting away for the holidays. I’ve never actually taken a trip this time of year. I’ve never needed to. The majority of my family lives in New England and the ones I tend to see over the holidays live within 20 minutes of me. I have taken a few trips though. Some were for school and some were just for the hell of it. I want to talk about my favorite ones.

Aside from short trips to Rhode Island, my family never really went very far. I did go to New York with my dad once for a Native thing. We ended up being filmed for some TV show on a public access channel and I was terrified the entire time. I don’t do well in front of the camera. I’ve been to New York City with school, and I’ve been in the Statue of Liberty. While it was fun, it wasn’t a favorite trip.

My brother was living in Virginia, about 20 minutes from the North Carolina border, in 2008. He needed to come home for something and my sister and I took the trip with her kids to pick him up. We decided to make it a proper trip and we stopped in Washington, DC. Parking was a bitch, let me tell you! But once we found a place to park, we walked around the city for hours. Thanks to MySpace (yup, MySpace!) I have pictures from the trip. I would love to go back some day. We didn't get to see a whole lot because the kids didn't want to keep walking around and we didn't want to bring them into the museums.

Smithsonian Museum

Mish at the Washington Memorial

War Memorial

They look so happy to be there

White House. I don't think Bush was home when we went.

View from the car

Capitol Building

I don't actually know what building this is but I like the picture

Washington Monument

Ride home - yes I'm reading the last Twilight book

Another of the White House - all of the pictures without the date Amanda took

White House

I tried really hard to get the fountain at just the right angle.

National Museum of the American Indian

Another one of the Smithsonian
The ones of the White House weren't taken on the actual grounds. We put the camera through the fence so it wasn't in the way, lol. I have always been big on making my photos look artistic and a barred fence would not fit the bill. I also tried several times to get just the right shot of the fountain.

Another awesome trip was the one to Sioux Falls. I have a video of that on my YouTube, also embedded below. It was freezing and not as fun though. The falls looked cool frozen but I'd like to go back with different company and see it in the summer.

If I have any tips for going somewhere, it's make sure you're in the right company. The DC trip was so much more fun because of who I was with. On the flip side, the Sioux Falls was damn near hell. Another would be to plan it out. We knew we were just going to be there for a few hours in DC so we didn't plan anything. We just walked around the city. I sort of regret that now. I will have to go back with a plan so I can see more of the city.

Have you ever taken an awesome trip? Ever been to DC? Let’s chat in the comments!
