No Spend March?

Hello all! It's been an odd month! But as it wraps up I wanted to talk about March. I did my taxes, hoping to get enough back to put towards getting a car. That's not happening because I owe. Ugh. So now I need to figure out a plan for this month!

Right now, I have been "saving" $50 a week in a different bank account. But I haven't been saving it like I should have been. Back in December I used that card for spa treatments and then overdrafted it and had to start all over again. Coming into January I sort of started saving but then I spent that money on gas or something, I'm not really sure.

Now it's the beginning of March and I just started something new. As of today, $200 from my full time job will be going to my second bank account. Right now I have $300 saved. I took the debit card out of my wallet and left it at home and I'm not going to use it at all.

I also kind of want to do a no spend month again maybe. I'm just not sure how successful it will be since I'll still have bills and I won't be seeing as much in my checks. I normally see about $350 in my full time check on Thursdays after the $50 goes to the other account. With $200 going to my other account I'll be seeing about $200 every week on Thursday and then about $140 on Friday. My weekly bills are about $125 excluding when it's my turn to pay for gas.

I also have two monthly subscription boxes, Ipsy and Sephora, that come out on the 1st for $10, Apple Music on the 5th for $10, Allure for $10 on the 6th, Google for $2 on the 11th, Wix for $15 (if I can get my billing fixed) on the 22nd, and Adobe for $10 on the 26th. My phone is in there somewhere too; my month ends on the 11th this month which is a Saturday so I'll have to pay my bill the Thursday or Friday before that. That's not including my $215 student loan payment due on the 4th every month. The day I pay that varies depending on what day of the week the 4th lands on for any given month.

For March, my loan payment is coming out on the 3rd (today) because I already scheduled it. I pay $80 of my rent to Amanda's car finance company and the other $20 is for food. Then I have my rental payment of $23, Apple comes out on the 5th too. All of that comes out of what I have left from last week and this week's check. But it all comes from my main account, so it won't affect my savings.

That being said, this weeks check is going to primarily go to bills and savings anyway. Then next week will be a little higher because of my phone; I'll be spending about $175 in bills. But after that it's pretty steadily in the $130's. It seems like mostly my bills will be paid from my second paycheck so I'll be seeing about $200 every week in excess money. I think I do want to try to save as much of that as possible, I just don't know how well it will work since I need to get food.

What do you suggest? Should I do a no spend month and save as much as I can, or should I keep to my plan of the $200 a week and have the rest of the money for me? I really think I should save as much as I can.

  1. I think you should save it! I'm having a no spend month, too!

    1. I've decided I'm going to try to save. I'm not doing posts about it, but I want to save what I can.
